Well, sort of.
The family and I just got back from a blissful week of camping at James River State Park. It’s about an hour and a half away from us here in Charlottesville and is a place that is very special to us. We’ve been going almost every year for the past decade (11 years if you’re really counting) and I love it as much for the river, cabins and views as I do for the fact that it’s “just down the street” from by beloved alma mater, Sweet Briar College.
We had no internet. We had no cell service. We did sleep in a cabin (beautiful, well-appointed and relatively new) because bringing four boys 7 & under camping for a week straight is not for the faint of heart. If you’ve got that kind of adventure in you, good on you my friend, but for this season of my life I surely do not!
I’ll be posting many more adventures about our camping experience in this beautiful Virginia State Park as well as the recipes I decided on and the meals we ate. I’ll also be publishing a Camping Meal Plan complete with shopping list, menu & recipes for a week’s worth of delicious and easy-to-make food over on Vie, so I’ll let you know when that is up and running so you can use it for free for your next vacation, but let me just start by saying that our menu for the week was all designed to fit within a tight budget and be tasty, innovative and even a little gourmet!
Finally, having no internet or service was so nice, but as expected has put me pretty behind in the work department. I’ll be taking this week to catch up, catch my breath and approach everything step by step. So sit back, relax and check out a preview of what we got ourselves into.
I hope all of these were enough to at least whet your appetite until I have the chance to cover more of our week. More recipes and stories to come!
Are any of you vacationing at a Virginia State Park this summer? If so, where? I’d love to hear about your favorite camping spot.0
