Well, here I am. In one of the many moments I have been looking forward to for a long time. My kids are in school having a blast, and I am working again…having a blast!
Here’s a post I put up on facebook last week on my very first day back into the world of adults (at least on a part-time basis):
I’ve been working on the phrasing of this in my head all day, and since the end of the day is rapidly approaching, I’ve just decided to mash together some connection of words that I hope can be half-eloquent: Today is a big day. I’m sitting in a coffee shop, working at the same table that I sat at the last time I was here working, only that was five years ago. Everyone tells you that having children will change the way you love and look at life, which I now know to be true …but what they don’t really tell you is how little time you will get in return. And while we all do it differently (working, sitters, day care, staying at home), I have the chance now to sit and reflect on the fact that today marks the first time in five years that I have time to myself again. Never again will I take something as simple as time for granted. It feels like every minute of every day over the last many years has been taken up by the multiple needs of my kids. Now they are in school, all of them. And while it won’t be every day or all day, I am looking forward to the simple pleasures once again of an uninterrupted lunch with my husband, a returned email or call, and a thought that does not go unfinished. I am, my friends, free to be an adult again and I am loving every minute. And oh by the way, I can’t wait to pick up my sons and give them a huge squeeze…or five.
Today is DAY 2 of freedom, and I am loving every minute. I found myself alone in my house for the first time since I can remember this morning, and after a few moments of pacing and trying to keep busy, I was finally able to relax, take a breath, and learn to move slowly again.
Today so far I’ve done a lot of work for Relay Foods, my other favorite job aside from this one, and I am excited to start the process of lining up even more work with them Look for my meals and recipes on Relay’s amazing site that will highlight Back to School ideas, holiday menus and even nice Winter-inspired fare.
Look for more on the blog soon, too! I’m about to really beef it up.0
